Book Donation Policy

I am posting a sign on the front door with our book donation policy.
  • The library can only accept books that are in VERY GOOD, CLEAN CONDITION. We will not accept books that are dirty, dusty, moldy, or smell of smoke.
  • While we do accept classics, generally donated books should be no more than a few years old.
  • If you would like a receipt for your tax purposes, please ask for one.
  • We DO NOT accept VHS tapes or cassette tapes.
  • We DO accept DVDs and books on CD.
  • Please do not leave donations in the book drop or outside of the building.

It would be wonderful to think that everyone will read this and we'll no longer have to deal with "bad" donations, but that's probably not reality. So, when people call, please feel free to be as explicit as necessary about our policy. If someone comes in with a donation that you feel is not acceptable, you have three options: refuse the donation, come get me to refuse the donation, or accept the donation (because sometimes that's just the easiest thing to do) and then take it to the dumpster. Please do not take a bad donation and leave it for Pat to deal with.

If someone comes in with books that are not acceptable, and you are going to refuse the donation, mention the swap shops at the Dennis, Yarmouth, and Harwich dumps.

I will leave copies of the policy in the forms book at circulation as well.

If you have questions, please ask.

Thanks!
