Old Business:
ILL and Virtual Catalog fines are now going to be the same. The late charge is $1.00/day
New Business:
1) It is now mandatory that all media be secured with rubber bands.
2) Do not put holds on West Tisbury items that say they are in temporary storage. Their items are actually locked up while the new library is being completed.
3) A proposal was made to amend the loaning rule that allows people to renew only twice. The idea is being sent to membership to consider allowing items to be renewed three times. If the patron would still like this item they need only to contact their library to renew. If the staff determines the item does not have holds on it, they can make the decision to renew that item. We will not have to contact the owning library any more. The reasoning behind this is that libraies would rather see a book circulating than sitting on a shelf. This will be voted on in June.
4) If we collect money for an item we can send a check and a print out description of what the check is for by using our options in Fines in a patron record. Do not put money in delivery. If money is collected instead of a check it can be brought to one of the Clams meetings. Please inform the patron that the replacement money will go to the library but some libraries charge a processing fee. You can always call the library to ask. It is important to note that before we collect money for any item you really need to look at the item. At one time an aromatic $25 charge was put on items. We don't want to charge someone $25 if it is a $4.99 paperback.
5) There is a motion going before the directors in June that would mandate series being cataloged as one item. Some libraries felt this was a good thing and would be less confusing. Some libraries felt this was not a good thing for a variety of reasons. One being that some items are being circulated with a disc missing and this should not be happening. If a disc goes missing the item should be removed from the record. Another is the financial part not being able to circulate an item that has one disc go missing. Midwest will replace the disc but charges way more for material.
Housekeeping:
1) Need to check IDs when giving out new cards. Please put in entire middle names if you can get them. It was also suggested that when we are entering our new cards we get the persons birthday and put this in their record. This would stop some of the patrons who swear it isn't them!
2) Do not put bib level holds for patrons on items that should be item level holds. I have checked many items and we are doing really well!
3) Continue to cover barcodes on DVD series. Some libraries are just beginning to realize the problem and other libraries thought the problem was resolved:(
Any questions and comments, I am all ears:)
Kathy
