NoveList Plus and eSequels

We have two new databases, both aimed at readers advisory, NoveList Plus and eSequels. They are both linked on our home page.

I would like everyone to take a look at them and play around - they are not hard to use, and patrons are encouraged to use them themselves, but it's good if everyone has at least a general idea of how they work. Naturally, reference staff should have a thorough knowledge of how they work.

Novelist Plus is a tool that helps people find "read alikes" - "if you like Harry Potter, then you might like ...." based on author, title, genre, and more. Great for when a patron says they have read all of Nancy Thayer, and they want to read other things like that, and etc. eSequels is a database that deals solely with adult novels in series. It tells people what the proper READING order is (which is sometimes very different than the publication date, especially on older series that have been republished, like VC Andrews) and also can act as a read-alike tool. It does NOT deal with children's or YA series.

There are bookmarks to hand out with the return slips, and there is a feature box on the website. When we did the handouts on Freegal usage jumped hugely, so PLEASE hand out the bookmark slips with the return slips!

If you have any questions, please let me know.
Jessica
