Hello All:
Just wanted to pass on the information concerning the DVD Series proposal. It has been agreed upon and is presented as follows:
"It is recommended that all libraries keep multi-disc DVD television series (episodic in nature and intended to be watched in sequence) packaged together with NO VOLUME data in the item record. The number of discs in a set is indicated in the message field (e.g. "Please check for 4 discs"). The season number should be in the call number field but is optional and may be omitted. If a library needs to split a set, they should request a separate bib record from CLAMS and only then add volume data for each individual item record created. This policy is not retroactive from the date it takes effect."
Additional information concerning this:
"If a staff member is placing a hold for a patron via Sierra, they will have to discern if it is an older record with volume information (example: Discs 1-4) and then check to see if anyone split the set. If no library split the set, just hold the copy returned soonest. If you see split sets, you need to place an item level hold for your patron. Patrons using the OPAC will not have any problems because they will be forced to choose a specific copy if there is volume data and will not have to if there is not."
