Summer Reading

Hello, it is the summer reading time of year again. Sign up starts on Tuesday! I am going to try to get here early so I'll be here when we open in case we have any early birds. The process of signing kids up is simple, I have the steps printed on the first page of the Summer Reading Master Notebook (and they are below). The notebook will live on my desk. There won't be any prizes this week, just sign-ups. They get a reading log, a bookmark and a book bag when they sign up. Let me know if you have any questions!

Sign Up

1. Have them write their name and age on a record sheet in the Summer Reading Master Notebook.
2. Give them a log sheet, a bookmark, and a book bag.
3. Tell them they can bring back their log sheet as often as once a week. If they have read something (or have had someone read to them) in the past week they can pick out a prize from the prize basket.

Returning participants

1. Look at their log sheets to see if they have read something (or been read to) since the last time they were here.
2. Write your initials next to the last book read/leaf filled in.
3. Find their page in the Summer Reading Master Notebook. Write the date and a record of how many books or how many hours on the line for the current week (weeks 1 – 8 are listed).
4. Let them choose a prize from the prize basket. (This will be located behind my desk in the Children’s Room – full of toys, you can’t miss it!)
