Pub Serve January 2013

The January 3rd meeting started by going over the online registration that became available. There has 45 people that have registered on line. One important thing to remember is to delete the temporary card number and replace it with the new card number. Also, there are duplicate cards happening so ALWAYS check to make sure the patron is not already in the system. When filling out a patron information on a new card put as much information as you can for example middle name, full first name etc.

There was a proposal  for a formal policy regarding staff borrowing. It is coming as a result of some complaints that some staff are abusing/overriding renewal limits and extending due dates on new and popular items. We should not be changing our priority either. Again, this is another reason not to set the initials at the circulation desks and to remember they are on when you check out patrons or yourselves at your own desks.

There was discussion on the paging list and holds with please see Pub Serve notes in the manual at the Circ desk for additional information on this. **The best tip that was discussed that will help to shorten our in transit list would be to NOT clear the Item Paging list when you print it out. There is that option when you reach the final step. The item would remain on the list until one of us marks it missing.

The following is a list of reminders:

.
 HOUSEKEEPING & REMINDERS:
a. Would like to mention again that staff should not be renewing items if there are no available items. This has been addressed with the new policy voted on above. Also only renew other libraries item twice. If the patron needs the material extended longer, please call the owning library or have the patron call to renew.
b. Please put rubber bands on all DVDs & CDs when put in delivery. Also remember to please print out routing slip on DVDs that have information in the Volume field (i.e. series).
c. Please do not send books to fill holds that are damaged. Also please remember to use the repair slip when sending back items that are damaged.
d. Questions or Problems for Overdrive should go through the staff. Staff should fill in form online on Content Reserve.

Thanks,

Kathy

RUBBER BANDS:
There is a discrepancy in what is in the minutes of the meeting and The Clams Delivery/Policies posted on the staff pages. Pub serve voted on this policy in May and so it stands. I have emailed the person who runs the meeting about this confusion. Please just use your judgement. If the package locks, snaps, and is secure it should be alright.
